Lamar Miller, Donta Freeman: the Houston Texans 1-2 punch

Lamar Miller in his second season season as the Houston Texans lead running back should carry the workload and be the difference maker for the success of Tom Savage under center. Arian Foster’s replacement rushed for more than a thousand yards and five touchdowns in 2016. In 2017, expect him to pick up the pace out of the backfield particularly when it comes to receiving yards. Swing passes and running back screens would ope the flood gates for the Houston Texans offense. The question becomes whether Donta Freeman or Alfred Blue is the man.
Blue has rushed for more than 1600 yards in three seasons and five touchdowns.
With that in mind, Freeman the Houston Texans selected Freeman in third round of the 2016 NFL draft. The first UT Longhorns running back selected since 2008 is ready to take on major role in the Houston offense. The 2016 Doak Walker award winner ran for more than 2,000 yards and 15 scores in his final season at the University of Texas. The Texas City native led the nation with 184.4 yards per game.
Averaging 6.4 yards per carry, Freeman is expected to be the change of pace choice behind Miller. A 6 foot, 233 pounds, Freeman will give more versatility to the Houston offense than Blue in the last three seasons.
Miller and Freeman are a 1-2 punch that is second to none in the NFL if and its big if the Houston Texans offense executes the plays put in front of them. The line has to come together and the running backs have to exploit the defense with their strengths. This can be a tandem like the Giants had with Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber, like the Bears with Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo and other duos that NFL aficionados want to pen in there.
The Texans are an offense waiting to make it happen.
